Our History

In 1950, our agency’s namesake – Ronel J. Dubois – began his insurance career as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Ronel eventually joined Mapes Insurance Agency on the 2nd floor of the old Springvale National Bank building (now home to Key Bank). After a few short years, Ronel bought half interest in the agency, and in 1955, purchased the entire agency from Mr. Mapes.

By 1968, Ronel’s son, Robert W. Dubois, joined the agency. Father and son later relocated the office to its current location in the center of Sanford at 860 Main Street. Robert went on to purchase the agency from his father in 1980, after twelve years of growing the business together.

In 2003, Robert’s daughter Michele Dubois joined the business, following the completion of her studies at Ithaca College (NY) and Simmons College (Boston), where she earned a B.A. and M.A., respectively. Having worked for a New Hampshire-based insurance agency from 1992 to 1998, Michele was eager to return to the business of insurance. In 2008, Michele became the agency’s new owner and third generation to run the Ronel J. Dubois Agency.

Today, we continue to thrive as an independent insurance agency. We pride ourselves on PROMPT, PROFESSIONAL SERVICE with a focus on protecting our clients with comprehensive insurance coverages ranging from home and auto to life and business insurance. Based in southern Maine, the Ronel J. Dubois Agency services the insurance needs of individuals and business owners in the states of Maine and New Hampshire.
